Bio
Trish Delaney-Brown
Jazz Vocalist | Songwriter | Entertainer | Educator
Trish Delaney-Brown is an award-winning Australian jazz vocalist, songwriter, and educator who radiates authenticity, joy, and a deep connection with her music and her audiences. As the original soprano of the ARIA-winning a cappella group The Idea of North, she brought warmth and grace to stages across the globe. Since then, Trish has continued to blend jazz, folk, pop, and country influences through her solo and collaborative projects, earning a reputation as “one of our finest” (AustralianJazz.net) — an artist who reaches the heart of every song with soul and spontaneity.
A versatile performer and passionate teacher, Trish maintains a busy schedule that includes leading her Trish Delaney-Brown Quintet, performing with LYHRA (her vocal trio) and Serenata Trio, and running a private teaching studio. She also tutors voice and performance at the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA), and is the creative force behind Singing FUNdamentals — a playful, science-based online program introducing young singers to healthy vocal technique and joyful music-making.
An ABC Jazz Digital artist, Trish’s 2017 album The Game was longlisted for Best Jazz Album at the 2018 ARIA Awards. Her songwriting continues to garner acclaim, with three tracks from her latest EP Pockets reaching the finals of the 2024 Australian Songwriters Association (ASA) Awards, including a 4th-place finish in the Open Category. Most recently, her vocal trio LYHRA launched their live album Live at Church Street Studios to sold-out concerts and glowing audience feedback, cementing their place as one of Australia’s most captivating vocal ensembles.
Across her career, Trish’s artistry has been recognised with multiple national and international awards, including:
Songwriter of the Year – Australian Songwriters Association (2003)
Best Jazz Song – CARA Awards (USA, 2005)
Best Jazz Fusion / Gospel Song & Best Gospel Lyric – Australian Gospel Music Awards (2007)
Jazz Songwriting Shortlist – APRA Professional Development Awards (2009 & 2017)
ASA Awards Finalist (2024)
Described as a voice that “first caresses your heart, then your intellect, and finally your soul,” Trish continues to pursue what drives her most — creating music that inspires connection, curiosity, and joy in both singers and listeners alike.
